Indiana University wanted more than upgraded facilities. The programme needed a space that reflected its tradition while supporting the future of Hoosier Football. Every room had to motivate players, improve daily routines, and strengthen the culture that defines the team.
Working alongside SmithGroup, Fortune Architecture & Design developed the final design after our concept was selected. Every space was planned around the needs of student-athletes, coaches, and support staff. The result is a modern football facility that combines performance, comfort, and school pride under one roof.
From the first step inside, visitors experience the identity of Indiana University Football. Bold branding, purposeful interiors, and carefully planned spaces create an atmosphere that celebrates the programme’s legacy while preparing athletes for the next chapter of their journey.
A Locker Room That Builds Confidence
Every football player begins and ends the day in the locker room. It is where preparation starts, victories are celebrated, and teammates become brothers. That made this space one of the most important parts of the entire renovation.
The new locker room combines performance with comfort. Spacious custom lockers give every athlete a personal space while the open layout encourages communication and teamwork. Players can prepare together, recover together, and build stronger relationships every day.
Lighting helps define the atmosphere. Modern LED fixtures brighten the entire room and highlight Indiana University’s signature crimson and white colours. Premium finishes and contemporary materials complete the space, creating an environment that feels professional, energetic, and worthy of a Division I football programme.
One feature immediately captures attention. The custom gridiron design at the centre of the locker room reminds every athlete what it means to wear the Indiana jersey. Large graphics, digital displays, and bold branding reinforce the team’s identity while celebrating the history of IU Football.
The layout also improves the daily routine of every player. Athletes move easily between the locker room, showers, hydrotherapy, sports medicine, and training areas. Every connection supports preparation, recovery, and performance without interrupting team activities.
This is more than a locker room. It is a space that inspires discipline, confidence, and excellence every single day.
A Space Where Team Culture Grows
Championship teams are not built only on the practice field. They grow through conversations, friendships, and shared experiences that happen away from competition.
The Players’ Lounge was designed to support those moments.
Comfortable seating creates places where teammates can relax after training. Entertainment areas encourage friendly competition while giving players time to unwind together. Every detail helps create a welcoming environment where athletes feel connected both on and off the field.
Large Indiana University Football graphics transform the walls into powerful storytelling features. Instead of serving as decoration, they remind every player that they represent generations of athletes who helped build the programme’s legacy.
Open layouts and flexible furniture make it easy for teammates to gather naturally. These everyday moments build trust, strengthen leadership, and create the relationships that often define successful teams.
The Players’ Lounge reflects an important idea. Elite athletic facilities should support the whole athlete, not just physical performance.
Designed Around Performance
Successful athletic facility design considers every step of the athlete’s journey.
Beyond the locker room and Players’ Lounge, the complex includes sports medicine facilities, hydrotherapy rooms, coaches’ locker areas, and the expanded Circle of Excellence. This central corridor connects the stadium while symbolising the journey of every Indiana Football player.
Legacy Hall creates another memorable experience. It welcomes visitors while celebrating the achievements, traditions, and future ambitions of the football programme. Throughout the complex, digital displays, custom graphics, and architectural details continue telling the story of Indiana University Football.
Every space supports a different part of the student-athlete experience. Together, they create one connected environment built around preparation, recovery, leadership, and success.
